“A view of the risd store showcase”, Gouache on Bristol paper

This is the tenth painting I finished in my life. It is a showcase of my college art supply store, called the “RISD store”. I found the reflection on the showcase is interesting, which creates a kind of comprehensive illusion of colors. Also, I can see the reflection of myself on the showcase when I’m standing in front of it. My reflection interacts with the reality behind the showcase. I become a part of the scene and the illusion. As I said, this is the tenth painting I did. Before my sophomore year in college, I never paint. I only drew, basically, everywhere. Well, drawing is indeed more convenient than painting, since the only thing I need is a pen and paper. Then, I can draw whatever I want in a boring mathematics class. I studied how to paint in college and found there is so much fun in painting! For this painting, I spent about one month to study, research, work, and finally finish. I improved a lot from this. Now, painting become one of my hobbies!
